How to Apply

Application to attend the Summer School can be made via our online registration formREGISTRATION IS OPEN NOW.

Application before 15 April 2026 is strongly advised as places are limited to 60.  The School will be held on the Sabhal Mòr Ostaig campus.  When the campus accommodation is at capacity, the School is full and a waiting list will be started. 

Applications will be considered as people apply. 

Participants are invited to attend the full 12 days of the School, if possible and for at least one week if the full two weeks are not possible.   

All participants of the Summer School are asked to prepare a poster and a short talk (of 10 minutes) on their research for the School.

In the application, applicants are asked to provide the following:

1.      Title of your poster and short talk

2.      Short abstract

If you are a PhD student, you are asked to provide the name of one referee. Your referee should be a senior scientist active in the research fields relevant to the Summer School and be able to provide a letter of reference, if requested.

There may be an opportunity to have some seminar oral presentations (of 20 minutes) from the participants in addition to your poster. The oral presentation can be a further expansion of your poster research.

Applicants will be notified of the decision within 5 days after their application is received. And their place will be confirmed upon payment for the School fee, accommodation and Board direct to the School’s host Sabhal Mòr Ostaig.   

Cost

Cost for each Category of Participant

The costs are all inclusive of the registration fee, full board (breakfast, lunch, dinner), accommodation, 2 coffee breaks per day on study days, wifi, venue hire, the Gala dinner, the Ceilidh and the bespoke coach travel from Glasgow to Skye return.

There are a limited number of single rooms and participants are asked to provide the names of possible room-mates upon application, with the expectation of sharing a twin room. 

Scholarships

A limited number of scholarships of £250 (GBP) and £500 (GBP) supporting attendance are available for PhD students. These may be awarded to people who are not able to get the full funding from their sponsoring institutions. Participants receiving scholarships are expected to attend the full 12 days of the School.

Applicants who wish to apply for a scholarship are asked in the application to give their case for scholarship support, stating their financial need and the importance of the Summer School to their research and research training.

Scholarships will be offered on the criteria of: the relevance and importance of the Summer School to their research and research training; the calibre of the candidate’s work at their stage of research career; and their financial need. Scholarships will be awarded with a balance of gender, under-represented groups and geographic distribution.

Family and accompanying persons

Family and accompanying persons are welcome.  They may join the participants for breakfast/lunch/dinner plus accommodation or just for the accommodation and social activities. Discounted prices for accompanying persons needing only accommodation or bed and breakfast are also available upon request.
