Special Buses for the Celta School

Glasgow to Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, Skye  On Monday 8 June 2026, leaving at 09:00 am from Glasgow, we will provide a special coach for participants to travel from Glasgow to Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, Skye.   The coach will travel to Skye via the Skye Bridge, with a stop over for 2 hours to visit the famous Eilean Donan Castle at lunchtime.  The coach will arrive at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig in time for a welcome reception and dinner at 17:00.   

 Sabhal Mòr Ostaig to Glasgow On Saturday 20 June 2026, we will transport people by the CELTA School minibus from Sabhal Mòr Ostaig to Armadale (2 mi).  Here we will book walk-on ferry places from Armadale to Mallaig (a 45 min ferry ride).  We will then provide a special coach for participants to travel from Mallaig to Glasgow.  Mallaig to Glasgow is a 4 hr 30 min (160 mi) journey.  Participants will have the opportunity to explore Mallaig before joining the bus.  Arrival in Glasgow is expected around 16:00.

Getting to the Isle of Skye

From the mainland, there are two main route options for getting to Skye:

1 To Skye via the ferry from Mallaig to Armadale

A Caledonian MacBrayne ferry (Mallaig to Skye) runs 9x daily from the port of Mallaig in the west Highlands to Armadale in Sleat on the south of Skye.  The ferry journey is 45 min.  Sabhal Mòr Ostaig is 5 minutes (2.2 mi) drive from Armadale. 

Travelling from Glasgow to Skye via the ferry

By bus:  Buses go from Glasgow Buchanan Bus Station to Fort William to Mallaig. (4 to 5 hrs 30 min)

By train:  Trains go directly from Glasgow Queen Street to Mallaig (5h 20 min)

By car:  Glasgow to Mallaig is a (3hr 16 min) 151 mi journey.

By Ferry:  From Mallaig, take the ferry to Armadale (45 min). You can request in advance a pickup at Armadale by the CELTA School minibus to bring you to Sabhal Mòr Ostaig (2 mi) or it is also a nice walk.

2 To Skye via the Skye Bridge

The Skye Bridge is a road bridge spanning Loch Alsh between the mainland village of Kyle of Lochalsh which is connected to Scotland's rail network, and Kyleakin on Skye. Sabhal Mòr Ostaig is 27 minutes (19.0 mi) drive from Kyleakin.

Travelling from Glasgow to Skye via the Skye Bridge

By bus:  Buses go directly from Glasgow Buchanan Bus Station to Broadford (Post Office), Skye.   Local buses go a few times daily from Broadford to Sabhal Mòr Ostaig.   You can request in advance a pickup at Broadford (Post Office) by the CELTA School minibus to bring you to Sabhal Mòr Ostaig (14 mi).  

By train: Trains go from Glasgow Queen Street to Fort William to Kyle of Lochalsh.  You can request in advance a pickup at Kyle of Lochalsh by the CELTA School minibus to bring you to Sabhal Mòr Ostaig (21 mi).

By car: Glasgow to Sabhal Mòr Ostaig via the Skye Bridge is a (4hr 37 min) 193 mi journey.

ETA - Depending on your nationality, you may need to get an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA).  This has been recently introduced to the UK and most visitors to the UK now need at least an ETA. You can apply online for an ETA.  Allow up to 3 working days to get a decision, but it may arrive much sooner.
